{"id":10577,"date":"2024-05-07T03:06:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T03:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=10577"},"modified":"2024-05-07T03:14:18","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T03:14:18","slug":"jewish-groups-sue-palestinian-groups-hamas-supporters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=10577","title":{"rendered":"Jewish Groups Sue Palestinian Groups, Hamas Supporters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/jewish-groups-sue-palestinian-groups-hamas-supporters\/\">https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/jewish-groups-sue-palestinian-groups-hamas-supporters\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/663957e2d4636.image_.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"uw-milwaukee protesters\" title=\"uw-milwaukee protesters\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As rioters take over college campuses setting up encampments, committing acts of violence, vandalism and antisemitism forcing some graduation ceremonies to be canceled, a coalition of Jewish groups has sued Palestinian groups arguing they are \u201ccollaborators and propagandists for Hamas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, the National Jewish Advocacy Center, the Schoen Law Firm, and the Holtzman Vogel law firm sued AJP Educational Foundation Inc., otherwise known as American Muslims for Palestine, and National Students for Justice in Palestine. The <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gtlaw.com\/en\/-\/media\/files\/news\/press-releases\/2024\/national-jewish-advocacy-center-the-schoen-law-firm-and-the-holtzman-vogel-law-firm-vs.pdf?sc_lang=en&amp;hash=B3D9D0E5C29A86D48411FFC49E7B2142\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit was filed<\/a> in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern Division of Virginia, Alexandria Division.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs are nine American and Israeli victims of the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. They include survivors of the attack, family members of those Hamas murdered, and civilians still under fire from and displaced by Hamas\u2019 continued aggression. The lawsuit alleges the plaintiffs continue to be injured by AMP and NSJP organizers who are knowingly providing \u201ccontinuous, systematic, and substantial assistance to Hamas and its affiliates\u2019 acts of international terrorism. AMP and NSJP are thus liable to Plaintiffs for the damages they incurred because AMP and NSJP aid and abet Hamas\u2019s terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They say they\u2019ve experienced \u201ca wide spectrum of physical and emotional injuries\u201d as a result of the violence allegedly orchestrated by AMP and NJSP and are seeking compensatory damages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is time that Hamas and all of its agents, like AMP and NSJP, be held responsible for their horrific actions,\u201d they said in a <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gtlaw.com\/en\/news\/2024\/05\/press-releases\/greenberg-traurig-national-jewish-advocacy-center-schoen-law-firm-and-holtzman-vogel-represent-american-and-israeli-victims-of-hamas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joint statement<\/a>. \u201cWe want to go on record to expose these groups for the terrorists they are and make certain that they are stopped from operating in the United States and other countries they infiltrate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamas, the acronym for Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya (Islamic Resistance Movement), was designated by the U.S. State Department as a foreign terrorist organization in 1997. \u201cIt is the largest and most capable militant group in the Palestinian territories and one of the territories\u2019 two major political parties,\u201d according to the National Counterterrorism Center.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit alleges AMP and NSJP are \u201ccollaborators and propagandists for Hamas\u201d because on October 8 they responded to a Hamas founder\u2019s call to hold \u201cresistance\u201d events on college campuses. The NSJP published a \u201ctool kit\u201d for Palestinian students in the U.S. to use against Israeli \u201coccupiers\u201d and \u201cZionist media campaigns,\u201d The Center Square <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/florida\/article_dbe46588-7424-11ee-93c4-4f6f1daf8204.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>AMP and NSJP maintain Hamas\u2019 attack was justified, call for the destruction of Israel and death to Jews, and have targeted American Jewish students with acts of violence.<\/p>\n<p>After Oct. 7, antisemitism and violence escalated against Jews in America by nearly 400%, The Center Square <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_7c17a178-b30e-11ee-a0b7-7fd90857dce4.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Since then, violence has increased on college campuses with leaders failing to stop it, another <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_edce183e-fd9f-11ee-8fbf-c3c3edcb98d2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> found.<\/p>\n<p>The call to violence was responded to differently by Republican and Democratic governors. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an emergency declaration, instructed the state university system to deactivate pro-Palestinian student groups on campuses, and Florida law enforcement officers proactively cracked down on protestors.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Gov. Greg Abbott <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_02c61692-fd9b-11ee-a7e7-9b302892c553.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advanced efforts<\/a> to combat antisemitism and state troopers quelled rioters attempting to take over the University of Texas in Austin. Unlike campuses in California and New York that were taken over by pro-Hamas encampments and in-person instruction and graduation ceremonies were canceled, no campuses were taken over in Texas and Florida, rioters were arrested, and graduation ceremonies are going forward.<\/p>\n<p>After \u201cday-of-rage\u201d <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_fe8c2a4a-691f-11ee-8c99-7f06558ef25f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">protests<\/a> occurred last October, a poll found that a majority of Muslim-Americans surveyed, 57.5%, said Hamas \u201cwas justified in attacking Israel as part of their struggle for a Palestinian state,\u201d The Center Square <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_145f7b4a-82f4-11ee-a528-c7c1fd7c9a69.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Included among them was U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Michigan, who was censured by Congress for her unapologetic support of Hamas. She claimed, the phrase being used by rioters, \u201cFrom the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,\u201d means it\u2019s \u201can aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamas disagrees. Its preamble to the 1988 Hamas Covenant of the Islamic Resistance Movement includes the famous claim, \u201cIsrael will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it,\u2019\u201d The Center Square <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_145f7b4a-82f4-11ee-a528-c7c1fd7c9a69.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>White House National Security Spokesperson John Kirby has also acknowledged, \u201cHamas does have genocidal intentions against the people of Israel. They\u2019d like to see it wiped off the map. They\u2019ve said so on purpose. That\u2019s what\u2019s at stake here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case is very simple: When someone tells you they are aiding and abetting terrorists\u2014believe them,\u201d Mark Goldfeder, CEO of the National Jewish Advocacy Center said.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Edlin, Vice Chair of Greenberg Traurig, said free speech doesn\u2019t include hate speech. \u201cIt is deeply ironic that the same people carrying signs saying, \u2018Death to America\u2019 and \u2018Death to Jews\u2019 claim they are protected by free speech,\u201d he said. \u201cThey are not.
