{"id":11531,"date":"2024-07-08T10:00:59","date_gmt":"2024-07-08T10:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=11531"},"modified":"2024-07-08T21:01:16","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T21:01:16","slug":"americas-unraveling-shared-moral-code","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=11531","title":{"rendered":"America\u2019s Unraveling Shared Moral Code"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/wifamilycouncil.org\/radio\/americas-unraveling-shared-moral-code\/\">https:\/\/wifamilycouncil.org\/radio\/americas-unraveling-shared-moral-code\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sociologist James Davison Hunter writes in his book <em>Democracy and Solidarity<\/em>, that quote, \u201call healthy societies are bound together, not by the power of a state and its military, but by the power of a culture,\u201d adding importantly, \u201cthrough most of history, cultures were religious in character.\u201d End quote. Hunter goes on to note that American society has largely unraveled what he calls a shared moral code that emanates from a culture\u2019s religious beliefs. The result is a society where we have few if any common assumptions about what a good society looks like.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter\u2019s analysis makes sense, but it also shows the path back to a healthy and good society. That path is a return to the Christian principles our country was originally built on. We\u2019re not talking a theocracy. We are talking sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, putting the Bible back in classrooms, and electing more officials who are godly.
