The place \u2013 1st, 2nd or 3rd \u2013 will be announced on May 12 at the Gridiron Awards Dinner at the Pfister hotel in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>[If you like our work, please consider becoming a reoccurring member for $10\/month or whatever you can afford, so we can keep Wisconsin Right Now going. You can donate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buymeacoffee.com\/wirightnow\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here.<\/a>]<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Milwaukee Press Club is a statewide contest, so McBride and Piwowarczyk competed against the state\u2019s major television stations, newspapers, and online sites. \u201cThe Milwaukee Press Club is the oldest continuously operating press club in North America, and possibly the world,\u201d its website says.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were for:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Public Service Story or Series<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Victims\u2019 Families Not Notified About Paroles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We submitted a series of stories in which we uncovered the fact that multiple murder victims\u2019 families were not notified by the state of paroles and parole hearings of the killers of their loved ones.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81453\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81453\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-81453 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/tony-evers-parole-1024x576-1.jpg\" alt=\"tony evers parole\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" title=\"wisconsin right now\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81453\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tony evers and johanna balsewicz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Best Coverage of a Single News Topic or Event Including Breaking News<br \/>\nDouglas Balsewicz case<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We submitted a series of stories about our coverage of the pending parole of wife killer Douglas Balsewicz, whose parole was ultimately reversed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Investigative Story or Series<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tim Michels\u2019 Residency Questions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We submitted our story investigating gubernatorial Tim Michels\u2019 residency questions.<\/p>\n<p>WRN competed with the state\u2019s major newspapers, online sites and television stations in the award contest. Wisconsin Right Now has won Milwaukee Press Club awards every year since its founding in August 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are most proud that we were able to give a needed voice to victims who had been left out of the state\u2019s parole process,\u201d McBride said. \u201cWe remain deeply troubled by the Wisconsin news media\u2019s lack of interest in the voices of victims when covering that topic. The media made the parole story only about numbers.
