UPenn\u2019s interim president stated, quote, \u201cAlthough well-meaning, these institutional messages fundamentally compete with the free and unencumbered creation and expression of ideas by individuals,\u201d end quote.<\/p>\n<p>This is a refreshing move from two institutions that have finally realized issuing polarizing political statements does more harm than good for faculty, students, and the school\u2019s reputation. Free speech is hindered when students and staff are scared to voice opinions that differ from the school\u2019s.
