Tomorrow\u2019s testimony will focus on impacts to the City of Whitewater following influx of migrants<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

MILWAUKEE, WI<\/b> \u2013 Tomorrow, Institute for Reforming Government General Counsel and Director of the Center for Investigative Oversight (CIO), Jake Curtis, will testify before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on the immigration crisis and its impact on the City of Whitewater.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHY DOES IT MATTER:<\/b> Earlier this year, IRG\u2019s CIO investigated how America\u2019s broken immigration system has placed crushing burdens on the City of Whitewater \u2013 exposing the humanitarian crisis that has overwhelmed the city\u2019s resources. Now, the Judiciary Committee has invited IRG to testify after we reviewed over 400 records exposing the City\u2019s estimation that at least 1,000 migrants from Central America have established themselves in the sleepy college town over the last few years. <\/span>Read our full report here<\/span><\/i><\/a> and <\/span><\/i>read our piece in the Wall Street Journal here.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

The immigration crisis affects border states and places in small-town America \u2013 like the City of Whitewater and throughout other communities in Wisconsin. This crisis has had real impact on local communities such as an increased strain on law enforcement resources, housing overcapacity, and the challenges associated with educating children with no formal background in schooling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

IRG\u2019s Chief Legal Counsel and Director of Oversight Jake Curtis released the following statement:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span><\/i>Due to America\u2019s broken immigration system, local units of government like the City of Whitewater are being forced to deal with a crisis that impacts almost every area of government operations. It is imperative that the Judiciary Committee is coming to Wisconsin tomorrow to learn more about this crisis and realize further that we need to secure our border.
