{"id":13721,"date":"2024-10-30T16:03:30","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T17:03:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=13721"},"modified":"2024-10-30T20:56:36","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T20:56:36","slug":"wisconsin-dmv-provides-free-state-id-cards-for-voting-purposes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=13721","title":{"rendered":"Wisconsin DMV Provides Free State ID Cards for Voting Purposes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsindailystar.com\/news\/wisconsin-dmv-provides-free-state-id-cards-for-voting-purposes\/tcsquare\/2024\/10\/30\/\">https:\/\/wisconsindailystar.com\/news\/wisconsin-dmv-provides-free-state-id-cards-for-voting-purposes\/tcsquare\/2024\/10\/30\/<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<h5>by Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Boudreaux<\/h5>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>U.S. citizens residing in Wisconsin who do not already have an approved photo ID or the necessary identification documents to obtain one can still apply for a <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsindot.gov\/Pages\/dmv\/license-drvs\/how-to-apply\/petition-process.aspx\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">temporary identification card for voting purposes<\/a>, free of charge.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Wisconsin Department of Transportation requests all Wisconsinites applying for the temporary free ID used for voting \u2013 this is not a Wisconsin Voter ID, which does not exist \u2013 bring proof of name and date of birth, proof of identity, proof of state residency and proof of U.S. citizenship.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">If an applicant cannot produce these documents however, the DMV can still immediately provide the applicant with the temporary ID for voting, and have the applicant fill out a personal information\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsindot.gov\/Documents\/formdocs\/mv3012.docx\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">form<\/a>\u00a0instead. The DMV can then use the information provided to facilitate a search process for U.S. born citizens and verify the applicant\u2019s information.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Besides the temporary voter ID card, which is issued in the form of a paper receipt, Wisconsinites can vote at the polls if they present an expired or unexpired state-issued driver\u2019s license, state ID card, U.S. military card or passport, federally recognized Indian tribe ID card, or certain student photo ID cards from a Wisconsin accredited college or university.<\/p>\n<p>For a full list of other acceptable photo IDs, Wisconsin residents can visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bringit.wi.gov\/do-i-have-right-photo-id\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/bringit.wi.gov\/do-i-have-right-photo-id<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 \u2013 \u2013<br \/>\n<em>Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Boudreaux is an apprentice reporter covering Michigan and Wisconsin for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/wisconsin\/article_0c07ac88-9617-11ef-b962-f3d6eacb37de.html\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">The Center Square<\/a> under the mentorship of Midwest Regional Editor J.D.
