The agency\u2019s legal representatives indicated that endorsing candidates will not result in removing a church\u2019s tax-exempt status. Citing First Amendment conflicts, the IRS recognized that punishing churches for political endorsements forces its agency to walk a thin line to avoid violating freedom of speech.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The agency\u2019s reconsideration is a step in the right direction for religious freedom. The government\u2019s role should never be to dictate how churches operate.
