However, Enbridge officials and others who toured the area on Monday found the pipeline is still covered by multiple feet of soil and that no safety issues are evident.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the call for shutting down the pipeline, WMC Executive Vice President of Government Relations Scott Manley released the below statement:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAs Wisconsinites continue to grapple with high energy prices, erroneously shutting down Line 5 would simply make the situation worse in Wisconsin and beyond. Line 5 is a critical piece of North America\u2019s energy infrastructure, and it is unfortunate that the Bad River Band would use inaccurate scare tactics in this situation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMoreover, if the Bad River Band was actually concerned over safety, they would have granted the requests by Enbridge to reinforce the riverbank.
