\u201cAbprallen,\u201d a designer whose works are being sold by the Target retail chain, has created Satanic influenced designs, writing of one, \u201cSatan loves you,\u201d and marketing a \u201ctrans witches for abortion\u201d<\/a> pin, according to the designer\u2019s own Instagram page.<\/a> \u201cWe\u2019ll hang with Satan instead,\u201d the designer wrote<\/a> in another Instagram post.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the latest controversy to hit the Internet over Target\u2019s \u201cPride\u201d line of clothing and other items. The Abprallen designs sold by Target are not the Satanic influenced ones. However, the designer\u2019s Instagram page is filled with references to Satan, using the following hashtags on a post about a design called \u201cSatan respects pronouns\u201d: \u201clgbt #lgbtq #lgbtqia #satanism #satanic #satanictemple #churchofsatan #pastelgoth #gothic #queer #transisbeautiful #nonbinary #enby #oneofthem #witchesofinstagram.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wisconsin education activist Scarlett Johnson sent the topic viral with a series of tweets.<\/a> The Washington Examiner has also reported <\/a>on the topic. According to the Examiner, Target has declined to comment, and the brand has been collaborating with Abprallen for about a year. WRN has also reached out to Target public relations seeking comment.<\/p>\n

Target\u2019s website currently lists three items <\/a>for sale that were designed by \u201cAbprallen.\u201d They are a Pride \u201cWe Belong Everywhere\u201d messenger bag; a Pride \u201cToo Queer for Here\u201d messenger bag; and a Pride \u201cCure Transphobia\u201d sweatshirt.<\/p>\n

Abprallen wrote on Instagram<\/a>, \u201cThis has been so hard to keep quiet but I can now proudly announce that you can buy Abprallen in US Targets! Part one of the range includes a messenger bag, a tote, and a sweatshirt!\u201d<\/p>\n

As noted, the Target-marketed designs aren\u2019t satanic, but other designs by Abprallen mention Satan or Lucifer.<\/p>\n

For example, one design <\/a>on Abprallen\u2019s Instagram page says, \u201cSatan respects pronouns.\u201d (Another says \u201cheteronormativity is a plague.\u201d)<\/p>\n

On March 28, Abprallen shared the Satan respects pronouns design on Instagram and wrote:<\/p>\n

Satan loves you and respects who you are; you\u2019re important and valuable in this world and you deserve to treat yourself with love and respect. Satanists don\u2019t actually believe in Satan, he is merely used as a symbol of passion, pride, and liberty. He means to you what you need him to mean. So for me, Satan is hope, compassion, equality, and love. So, naturally, Satan respects pronouns. He loves all LGBT+ people. I went with a variation of Baphomet for this design, a deity who themself is a mixture of genders, beings, ideas, and existences. They reject binary stereotypes and expectations. Another Abprallen design on Instagram advertises a \u201cSatanic flea market\u201d in London called an \u201canti Christmas fayre.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s almost time for London\u2019s (the world\u2019s!?) greatest Christmas market! Head to the gloriously huge @electrowerkz_ this Sunday for @satanicfleamarket\u2019s incredible AntiChristmas Fayre. With over 60 stalls (mine included!) you\u2019re bound to find something for everyone on your list \u2013 especially for yourself,\u201d the post says.<\/p>\n
