In a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/sg-youth-mental-health-social-media-advisory.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>\u00a0public advisory<\/span><\/a>, Vivek Murthy said there are \u201cample indicators\u201d that social media poses a \u201cprofound risk of harm\u201d to children\u2019s mental health and development. The country\u2019s foremost doctor said there\u2019s simply not enough data currently available to determine if social media is \u201csufficiently safe\u201d for children and adolescents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For years we\u2019ve been warning parents about digital devices in general and social media apps in particular. The advisory <span>says up to 95 percent of teens and 40 percent of kids between eight and twelve are on social networks. These apps regularly expose children and teens to extreme or harmful content. The message?
