The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is\u00a0running<\/a>\u00a0\u201cPride Camps\u201d for middle and high schoolers in June and July.<\/p>\n

Campers are invited by the university to \u201cbuild community with other LGBTQ+ and allies\u201d their age.<\/p>\n

The camps are \u201cdesigned for students to socialize and learn with friends, gaining a deeper understanding of queer history, health topics and wellness,\u201d according to the university\u2019s advertisement page for the camps.<\/p>\n

It adds, \u201cStudents will also enjoy traditional camp activities, including arts and crafts, and playing games.\u201d<\/p>\n

The middle school camps are for grades 6-8 (ages 10-13). The high school camps are for grades 9-12 (ages 14-18).<\/p>\n

Organizers note that \u201cFirst-time Pride camp registrants will be given priority over returning camp registrants.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe camp is led by Nicole Kurth, UW-Green Bay Pride Center Coordinator, and Pride Center student interns,\u201d the middle and high school camp descriptions read.<\/p>\n

Nicole Kurth (pictured above) received \u201can outstanding achievement award for helping to create a safer and more inclusive climate for LGBTQ+ people\u201d from the University of Wisconsin System.<\/p>\n

\u201cPride camps\u201d for children are an emerging trend on college campuses. The University of Evansville in Indiana is\u00a0set\u00a0<\/a>to run<\/a>\u00a0a weeklong \u201cPride Camp\u201d from Sunday, June 18, to Saturday, June 24, for teenagers ages 13-17.<\/p>\n

The University of Evansville in Indiana is set\u00a0to run<\/a>\u00a0a weeklong \u201cPride Camp\u201d from Sunday, June 18, to Saturday, June 24, for teenagers ages 13-17.<\/p>\n

Teens who attend will \u201c[b]uild lifelong friends with incredible activities throughout the week while learning about social justice and activism\u201d and \u201c[h]ear powerful stories of LGBTQ+ history and heroes \u2013 and learn how to write your own story your way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The university describes the event as a \u201cfirst-of-its-kind summer camp\u201d and as \u201c[e]mpowering queer\/questioning youth and allies to discover their authentic selves and build a caring, supportive community of peers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Topics for sessions and activities the teens will experience include sex and gender, the study of LGBTQ+, and the \u201cfuture of LGBTQ+ concerns in politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
