Most students aren\u2019t excited about anything to do with school in the middle of July. But there were lots of smiling faces this weekend at the backpack drive School\u00a0Choice\u00a0Wisconsin and Hispanics for School\u00a0Choice\u00a0in downtown Milwaukee.<\/p>\n

As director of outreach for Hispanics for School\u00a0Choice, I often meet with students and parents in a variety of settings. This last weekend was no different. Hundreds of students and parents visited our booth at the Mercadera Market held at the Deer District. Even Bango, the Milwaukee Bucks\u2019 mascot, got in the action and stopped by to hand out backpacks and school supplies and pose for pictures with fans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This was the second backpack drive we\u2019ve held this summer. In June, we had a great event in Green Bay at a church festival \u2014 you can see some coverage of that drive from Press Times here<\/a> and from WBAY here<\/a>. In the coming weeks, we also have events scheduled for Kenosha and Madison. All told, we are planning to hand out about 2,000 backpacks to students and families who need them ahead of the upcoming school year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
