{"id":4776,"date":"2023-08-07T14:37:07","date_gmt":"2023-08-07T14:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=4776"},"modified":"2023-08-07T15:08:03","modified_gmt":"2023-08-07T15:08:03","slug":"wisconsin-chief-justice-accuses-liberal-majority-of-coup-lawless-bullying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=4776","title":{"rendered":"Wisconsin Chief Justice Accuses Liberal Majority of \u2018Coup\u2019 &amp; \u2018Lawless Bullying\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/wisconsin-chief-justice-annette-ziegler-coup\/\">https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/wisconsin-chief-justice-annette-ziegler-coup\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin Chief Justice Annette Ziegler said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/rebecca-dallet\/\">new state Supreme Court liberal majority\u2019s action <\/a>usurping the Constitutional authority of the chief justice is \u201cnothing short of a coup\u201d and constitutes a \u201cpattern of lawless bullying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally they have changed the Constitution to insert a committee instead of the words chief justice,\u201d Ziegler said. \u201cThe Constitution is not being followed here. This has been completely out of bounds. Constitutional rights are firm. This invented committee is in violation of my colleagues\u2019 oath, the Constitution. It\u2019s illegitimate and unenforceable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said she is weighing and considering all of her actions and would not rule out suing the liberal majority but said she hoped it would not get to that point.<\/p>\n<p>Ziegler made the comments on Monday, August 7, 2023, on the Dan O\u2019Donnell show <a href=\"https:\/\/newstalk1130.iheart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on WISN 1130 AM.<\/a> They come on the heels<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/wisconsin-supreme-court-liberal-justices\/\"> of her sharply worded press release<\/a> Friday after the four liberals \u2013 Ann Walsh Bradley, Rebecca Dallet, Janet Protasiewicz, and Jill Karofsky \u2013 suddenly replaced the authority of the chief justice with a new \u201cSupreme Court committee.\u201d They gave themselves the authority to appoint 2 of the 3 committee members. The other conservative on the court, Rebecca Bradley, has also spoken out against the justices\u2019 actions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_108718\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108718\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-108718\" src=\"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/dallet4-300x253-1.jpg\" alt=\"rebecca dallet\" width=\"300\" height=\"253\" title=\"wisconsin chief justice\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-108718\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rebecca dallet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That action, as well as the liberal justices\u2019 unexplained, secretive firing of respected State Courts Director Randy Koschnick, a conservative, has earned growing bipartisan criticism. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/milwaukee-judge-ellen-brostrom\/\">Even a Milwaukee judge<\/a> who endorsed Protasiewicz is now saying it violated the state Constitution and the judges\u2019 oaths.<\/p>\n<p>Ziegler said the liberal justices took the words \u201csupreme court administrative committee\u201d and were \u201cputting those in the Constitution instead of the words chief justice. The Constitution calls for the chief justice to be the administrative head of the judiciary. The administrative authority of the chief justice has always been clear cut\u201d in the state Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>She said the liberal justices upended the \u201ccourt\u2019s own procedures and practices\u201d that existed for 40 years and through five chief justices.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_108460\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108460\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-108460 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Randy-Koschnick.jpg\" alt=\"randy koschnick, jill karofsky\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" title=\"wisconsin chief justice\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-108460\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jill karofsky, randy koschnick and janet protasiewicz.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ziegler, a conservative justice, said she believed the liberal justices made the changes to get \u201ccases they believe deserve preferential treatment to the front of the line,\u201d since the chief justice had authority over scheduling.<\/p>\n<p>Ziegler also criticized the liberal majority\u2019s unexplained firing of respected State Courts Director Randy Koschnick, saying they were \u201cpurging a really good employee from the court and doing so in a way that was completely unprecedented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the liberal majority did so \u201cin a way that was completely unprecedented, procedurally flawed and legally flawed,\u201d noting that Koschnick had \u201ccompleted 18 years of judicial service.
