{"id":4797,"date":"2023-08-08T12:55:10","date_gmt":"2023-08-08T12:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=4797"},"modified":"2023-08-08T13:04:20","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T13:04:20","slug":"how-the-public-can-conduct-oversight-irg-cios-open-meetings-primer-released-to-the-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=4797","title":{"rendered":"How the Public Can Conduct Oversight: IRG CIO\u2019S Open Meetings Primer Released to the Public"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/reforminggovernment.org\/how-the-public-can-conduct-oversight-irg-cios-open-meetings-primer-released-to-the-public\/\">https:\/\/reforminggovernment.org\/how-the-public-can-conduct-oversight-irg-cios-open-meetings-primer-released-to-the-public\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Delafield, WI<\/b><span> \u2013 Coming on the heels of several groundbreaking reports from IRG\u2019s Center for Investigative Oversight \u2013 including discovering<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/reforminggovernment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Shadow-Agency-6-26-23.pdf\"><span> United Nations Foundation funding of Governor Evers\u2019 climate change agenda<\/span><\/a><span> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/reforminggovernment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Top-Down_-A-Report-By-IRGs-CIO.pdf\"><span>unconstitutional hiring practices by UW-Madison<\/span><\/a><span> \u2013 today, the CIO is releasing a new manual, the <\/span><i><span>\u201c<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/reforminggovernment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/2023-05-24-CIO-OPEN-MEETINGS-PRIMER-1.pdf\"><b><i>Open Meetings Primer<\/i><\/b><\/a><i><span>\u201d<\/span><\/i> <span>to assist the public \u2013 both lawmakers and citizens \u2013 to better understand their rights within the governmental process under the guidelines of the Open Meetings Law in the State of Wisconsin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Tomorrow night, Anthony LoCoco, Director of Oversight, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/156e93c814c0\/tomorrow-dont-forget-15598908?e=a0331f0c54\"><span>will present the manual to Rock County First<\/span><\/a><span>, one of the state\u2019s leading grassroots organizations!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>WHAT IT IS:<\/b><span>\u00a0 The Primer provides an overview of the Open Meetings Law, a set of statutes guaranteeing to Wisconsinites general access to meetings of governmental bodies. The Primer discusses when the Open Meetings Law is triggered and the four main requirements of open meetings <\/span><i><span>(otherwise known as the four \u2018P\u2019s\u2019)<\/span><\/i><span>: <\/span><b>Posted, Public, Preservable<\/b><span> and <\/span><b>Published.<\/b><span> The document also dives into what happens when the Open Meetings Law is violated and a fifth \u2018P\u2019 comes into play: <\/span><b>Prosecutable. <\/b><span>It is for general information purposes only.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>WHY DOES IT MATTER:<\/b> <span>The Open Meetings Law is key for oversight as it is a powerful tool available for all Wisconsinites to use to conduct oversight of our state and local government. This is imperative so that our citizens can make good decisions about whether change is or isn\u2019t needed in the way our government is functioning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:<\/b><span> IRG hopes that citizens across the state of Wisconsin will take the time to learn about the Open Meetings Law and use the information to serve as watchdogs in their local areas.
