{"id":5778,"date":"2023-09-22T10:00:39","date_gmt":"2023-09-22T10:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=5778"},"modified":"2023-09-22T11:06:48","modified_gmt":"2023-09-22T11:06:48","slug":"the-blind-spot-in-poverty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=5778","title":{"rendered":"\u201cThe Blind Spot\u201d in Poverty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/wifamilycouncil.org\/radio\/the-blind-spot-in-poverty\/\">https:\/\/wifamilycouncil.org\/radio\/the-blind-spot-in-poverty\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A recent op ed by in <em>The New York Times<\/em> by liberal columnist Nicholas Kristof, asserted that if America is really going to get serious about poverty, we must move past what he calls a \u201cblind spot.\u201d Kristof says, quote \u201c&#8221;We&#8217;re often reluctant to acknowledge one of the significant drivers of child poverty, the widespread breakdown of family\u2026just as you can&#8217;t have a serious conversation about poverty without discussing race, you also can&#8217;t engage unless you consider single parent households.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes a situation becomes so obvious that any intellectually honest person, be they liberal or conservative, has to acknowledge it. That\u2019s what\u2019s happening here. The link between poverty and family structure can no longer be ignored by people serious about reducing poverty.
