Wisconsin lawmakers passed a series of bills on Thursday that ban doctors from performing sex change surgeries on minors and bar male athletes from participating in women\u2019s sports, according to the Cap Times.<\/p>\n

The package contains three bills, two of which prohibit biological men from\u00a0competing<\/a>\u00a0in girls\u2019 K-12 sports and women\u2019s\u00a0collegiate<\/a>\u00a0sports, while the\u00a0third<\/a>\u00a0would cause a physician to lose their medical license if they perform a sex change surgery or administer puberty blockers to a minor, according to the texts. The Wisconsin Assembly passed the package, sending the bills to the Senate for final approval before heading to Democratic Gov. Tony Evers\u2019 desk, who has said he would veto the legislation, the Cap Times\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to veto every single one of them (the bills),\u201d Evers said during a\u00a0rally<\/a>\u00a0at the state Capitol on Oct. 4,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to the Associated Press. \u201cI know you\u2019re here because you\u2019re pissed off and you want to stop it, and you will stop it, and I\u2019ll help you stop it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"Robin Vos, the Republican assembly speaker, said at a news conference prior to the vote that moving the legislation forward is \u201cthe right thing to do for Wisconsin families\u201d and noted that he hoped Evers would reconsider his position, according to the AP. Greta Neubauer, the Democratic assembly minority leader, argued that Vos\u2019 comments were \u201cdisgusting and completely misguided\u201d and that transgender people should \u201cbe able to access the medical care that they and their care teams deem necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over 20 states have passed legislation to ban sex change procedures for minors, including\u00a0Texas<\/a>,\u00a0Arizona<\/a>, Florida, Iowa and Virginia. The number of breast and chest procedures have\u00a0spiked<\/a>\u00a0for U.S. teenagers, and from 2016 to 2019 the surgeries had tripled from 4,552 to 13,011 for patients between the ages of 12 and 40, according to a recent study from the JAMA Network.<\/p>\n

Evers did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n
