technology advance \u201cequity and civil rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden signed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2023\/10\/30\/executive-order-on-the-safe-secure-and-trustworthy-development-and-use-of-artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>order<\/strong><\/a> this week, putting more regulatory guidance in place for A.I., a rapidly developing technology that some experts warn could be used to harm everyday Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Biden took it a step further, though, saying that A.I. \u201cmust be consistent with my Administration\u2019s dedication to advancing equity and civil rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Administration cannot \u2014 and will not \u2014 tolerate the use of AI to disadvantage those who are already too often denied equal opportunity and justice,\u201d the order says.<\/p>\n<p>Biden administration officials, including the Assistant to the President and Director of the Gender Policy Council, have also been tasked with finding \u201caccelerated hiring pathways\u201d for the right people on this issue, as defined by the administration.<\/p>\n<p>The order also seeks to \u201caddress algorithmic discrimination\u201d in part by increasing \u201ccoordination between the Department of Justice\u2019s Civil Rights Division and Federal civil rights offices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The order makes clear that while tech leaders navigate the ethics of A.I. in the beginning of its development, the federal government is pushing to have equity and progressive racial politics included in the regulatory discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Casey Harper<br \/>\n<a
