\u00a0<\/p>\n

Congressman Tom Tiffany, R-Wi., introduced legislation to address environmental concerns of illegal immigration, such as the millions of pounds of trash left near and on the southern border.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it\u2019s eight pounds of trash and we\u2019re up to nearly 10 million people, that\u2019s 80 million pounds of trash that have been dumped here in the United States of America,\u201d Tiffany said on the Monday edition of the\u00a0\u201cJust the News, No Noise\u201d<\/em>\u00a0TV show. \u00a0\u201cBut as we all know, the immigration situation, the illegal immigration that\u2019s going on with the open border has affected us in so many different ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bill Tiffany\u00a0introduced last week is titled<\/a>\u00a0the \u201cTrash Reduction and Suppressing Harm from Environmental Degradation (TRASHED) at the Border Act.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving seen the litter of trash, clothes, and human waste on our federal borderlands firsthand, I can tell you that the environmental damage of President Biden\u2019s open border needs critical attention,\u201d Tiffany wrote in a press release.\u00a0\u201cWhile the Biden administration turns a blind eye to the environmental consequences of illegal immigration, the TRASHED Border Act ensures there is greater transparency and accountability for illegals who litter on our public lands.\u201d<\/p>\n

Data\u00a0shows<\/a>\u00a0that Border Patrol agents have arrested roughly two million people who attempted to enter the U.S. unlawfully through either Canada or Mexico in fiscal year 2023.<\/p>\n

Republicans and other critics of the Biden administration have referred to the amount of people coming across the border as a \u201ccrisis\u201d and an \u201cinvasion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s also this component of where they\u2019re trashing, including our federal lands that are down on the southern border,\u201d Tiffany said. \u201cI think there\u2019s about 40% of our southern border that is federal lands, including national parks. I chair the Federal Lands Subcommittee, and we want to highlight there\u2019s damage being done in that way also.\u201d<\/p>\n
