{"id":8028,"date":"2024-01-03T17:05:06","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T18:05:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=8028"},"modified":"2024-01-03T18:57:35","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T18:57:35","slug":"trump-files-appeal-of-maines-ballot-disqualification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=8028","title":{"rendered":"Trump Files Appeal of Maine\u2019s Ballot Disqualification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/shenna-bellows\/\">https:\/\/www.wisconsinrightnow.com\/shenna-bellows\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/trump-raid.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"Shenna Bellows Kicking Trump Off 2024 Ballot Fake Electors Lawsuit Classified Documents Trial Donald Trump Poll Documents Trial Trump\u2019s Poll Numbers Spike After Indictment\" title=\"Bob Menendez\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump\u2019s campaign has filed an appeal of Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows\u2019 decision to disqualify him from the primary ballot, according to local news reports.<\/p>\n<p>A Kennebec County Superior Court clerk confirmed filing to the Portland Press Herold late Tuesday afternoon. \u201cThe clerk said a judge was reviewing the filing and a copy was not immediately available,\u201d according to the news report.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Bellows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_ee3fa64e-a5e7-11ee-9950-c7901dd2d208.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued a decision<\/a> brought forth by Maine voters to challenge Trump\u2019s primary petition, determining it invalid.<\/p>\n<p>Bellows, a Democrat, \u201cruled that the declaration on his candidate consent form is false,\u201d saying the former president is not qualified to hold the office of president, citing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Bellows contends that Trump deliberately inflamed supporters to prevent the certification of the 2020 election. She accused the former president of knowingly encouraging \u201cviolence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI conclude \u2026 that the record establishes that Mr. Trump, over the course of several months and culminating on January 6, 2021, used a false narrative of election fraud to inflame his supporters and direct them to the Capitol to prevent certification of the 2020 election and the peaceful transfer of power,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/sos\/news\/2023\/Decision%20in%20Challenge%20to%20Trump%20Presidential%20Primary%20Petitions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bellows wrote. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI likewise conclude that Mr. Trump was aware of the likelihood for violence and at least initially supported its use given he both encouraged it with incendiary rhetoric and took no timely action to stop it,\u201d Bellows added.<\/p>\n<p>Bellows defended her decision, saying it was not reached \u201clightly.\u201d She underscored the oath she took to uphold the Constitution in her decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe oath I swore to uphold the Constitution comes first above all, and my duty under Maine\u2019s election laws, when presented with a Section 336 challenge, is to ensure that candidates who appear on the primary ballot are qualified for the office they seek,\u201d Bellows wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham, leader of the Maine House of Representatives, released a brief statement slamming Bellows\u2019 decision as a \u201csham\u201d and accusing the secretary of state of being a partisan hack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a sham decision that mimics third world dictatorships,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It will not stand legal scrutiny.
