{"id":8248,"date":"2024-01-13T05:03:03","date_gmt":"2024-01-13T06:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=8248"},"modified":"2024-01-13T07:18:27","modified_gmt":"2024-01-13T07:18:27","slug":"wisconsin-supreme-court-rejects-remap-reconsideration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=8248","title":{"rendered":"Wisconsin Supreme Court Rejects Remap Reconsideration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsindailystar.com\/news\/wisconsin-supreme-court-rejects-remap-reconsideration\/tcsquare\/2024\/01\/13\/\">https:\/\/wisconsindailystar.com\/news\/wisconsin-supreme-court-rejects-remap-reconsideration\/tcsquare\/2024\/01\/13\/<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<h5>by Benjamin Yount<\/h5>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin\u2019s Supreme Court will not reconsider its ruling that tossed out the state\u2019s political maps.<\/p>\n<p>The new liberal-majority court ruled 4-3 against a request from Republican lawmakers to listen to arguments again.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for the Republican-controlled legislature also said Friday\u2019s deadline for new maps was too quick of a turnaround.<\/p>\n<p>The liberal-majority court ruled just before Christmas that Wisconsin\u2019s political maps from 2022 were too gerrymandered in favor of Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>The court then ordered new maps for both the Wisconsin Assembly and Wisconsin Senate to be drawn before this spring\u2019s primaries.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Tony Evers has said he intends to offer input on the new maps, but he said it will likely be up to the court\u2019s experts to decide what the new legislative boundaries will be.<\/p>\n<p>The Wisconsin Supreme Court didn\u2019t offer an explanation with its decision.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for those maps is 5 p.m. today.<\/p>\n<p>After that, experts hired by the court will either issue a report on new maps or will draw maps of their own.<\/p>\n<p>Those maps are due to the court by Feb. 1.
