{"id":8788,"date":"2024-02-05T19:29:36","date_gmt":"2024-02-05T20:29:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=8788"},"modified":"2024-02-05T20:58:21","modified_gmt":"2024-02-05T20:58:21","slug":"employers-call-for-workers-compensation-medical-fee-schedule-to-lower-costs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wifamily.news\/?p=8788","title":{"rendered":"Employers Call for Worker\u2019s Compensation Medical Fee Schedule to Lower Costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post originally appeared at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmc.org\/press-releases\/employers-call-for-workers-compensation-medical-fee-schedule-to-lower-costs\/\">https:\/\/www.wmc.org\/press-releases\/employers-call-for-workers-compensation-medical-fee-schedule-to-lower-costs\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>More than 100 employers sign letter to lawmakers urging action before the end of session<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>MADISON<\/strong> \u2013 Wisconsin Manufacturers &amp; Commerce \u2013 the combined state chamber and manufacturers\u2019 association \u2013 was joined by more than 100 employers from across the state on Monday urging lawmakers to tackle ever-increasing medical costs in the worker\u2019s compensation system.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition of diverse businesses sent a letter calling on the State Legislature to approve the medical fee schedule bill unanimously supported by the Worker\u2019s Compensation Advisory Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWisconsin is an outlier when we compare our worker\u2019s compensation medical costs to the cost for identical procedures in other states or even those same services under a group health plan in Wisconsin,\u201d the letter reads. \u201cThese higher costs have put Wisconsin businesses at a significant disadvantage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Specially, the letter explains that Wisconsin\u2019s average medical payment for worker\u2019s compensation is 35 percent higher than the median state in the U.S. and higher than all other Midwest states. Forty-five other states have reined in costs by implementing a medical fee schedule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only aspect of worker\u2019s compensation not regulated by government is the amount employers and insurers are forced to pay for medical claims,\u201d the letter continues. \u201cThe need for reform is long overdue.
