Republican businessman Eric Hovde launched his highly anticipated campaign against Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC)\u00a0recruited<\/a> Hovde (pictured above), who had been weighing<\/a>\u00a0a campaign for months, after other prominent Republicans like Reps.\u00a0Mike Gallagher<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Tom Tiffany<\/a>\u00a0declined to jump into the race. Hovde announced his campaign in a social media\u00a0video<\/a>\u00a0posted on X, and called for the country to unite to \u201cfind common sense solutions to restore America.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you feel like America is slipping away? Our country is facing enormous challenges \u2014 our economy, our health care, crime and open borders. Everything is going in the wrong direction. All Washington does is divide us, and talk about who\u2019s to blame, and nothing gets done. That\u2019s not the country I know and love,\u201d said Hovde.<\/p>\n

I’m running for the U.S. Senate because I’m tired of constant division and finger pointing by politicians.<\/p>\n

\"\"Hovde is a business executive<\/a>\u00a0of several companies in investment banking and real-estate. The Republican also founded a\u00a0nonprofit<\/a>\u00a0that helps underprivileged children, and also provides funding for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research.<\/p>\n

The Republican made a previous Senate\u00a0run<\/a>\u00a0for the seat now held by Baldwin in 2012, but former Gov. Tommy Thompson defeated him in the GOP primary.<\/p>\n

\u201cEric Hovde\u2019s experience as a job creator rather than a career politician makes him a strong candidate to flip Wisconsin\u2019s Senate seat this year,\u201d NRSC Chairman Steve Daines said in a statement. \u201cI\u2019m pleased to see Eric enter this race and look forward to welcoming him to the U.S. Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baldwin\u2019s campaign\u00a0responded<\/a>\u00a0to the news by asking for donations on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s official: Republican megamillionaire & California bank owner Eric Hovde is running against me for Wisconsin\u2019s Senate seat,\u201d Baldwin wrote. \u201cThis will be my most competitive and expensive race yet. I need your help to fight back. Donate now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cook Political Report\u00a0characterizes<\/a>\u00a0Baldwin\u2019s seat as in the \u201cLean D\u201d category, along with other competitive races in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Nevada.<\/p>\n

Baldwin did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n
