The American Library Association is recognizing National Library Week this week, with a theme of “Ready, Set, Library!”  In recent months, some states have severed ties with the ALA primarily over allegations that the organization is a defender of pornographic material for children. In 2022 the organization’s president called herself a “Marxist lesbian,” adding to the concerns.

There was a time in our nation when we could pretty easily and happily celebrate National Library Week. Unfortunately, that’s not the case today. We urge citizens to engage with their local public library by keeping tabs on their material selection, especially for children and youth. Getting on the local library board is a great way to help shape good library policies that safeguard all patrons.
