Catherine Pakaluk in an article written for The Heritage Foundation, says when marriage is viewed as permanent, it is character-building, leading to great benefits for children, society, and the nation.” Unfortunately, today too many view marriage from the vantage of what’s in it for them, which results in fewer takers and impermanence.  Pakaluk says the cause of the retreat from marriage is liberal divorce laws, which must be fixed to reverse course.

Wisconsin’s no-fault divorce law does not require both parties to consent to the divorce, which essentially means it’s quite easy for one spouse to walk away from a marriage in our state. This type of law breeds impermanence. We need to revise our divorce laws, but we also need to create a pro-marriage culture, which begins with families, churches, and communities.
