Pro-life activist Lauren Handy who participated in physically blocking access to an abortion facility in Washington DC received a sentence of nearly five years in prison for what the judge called “violent and obstructive behavior.” However, there was no violence involved. The judge said she felt Ms. Handy and the others with her put their views on abortion ahead of the needs of the women who came to the facility that day. Ms. Handy has been in jail since last August.

Ms. Handy’s attorneys recommended she get just one year of prison with credit for time served. The judge ignored their recommendation. Meanwhile, here in Wisconsin one of the pro-abortion activists who literally firebombed our office two years ago and threatened violence against us got just seven and a half years out of the twenty he could have gotten. What happened to justice?
