On September 17, 1787, our Founding Fathers signed the most influential document in American history—and some would argue in world history—the U.S. Constitution. Today we celebrate the 237th anniversary of this historic event. Combined with Constitution Day, we also recognize Citizenship Day. This year more than 17,000 people will become new citizens in hundreds of naturalization ceremonies.

Founder John Adams noted, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Adams was essentially saying our Constitution works as long as we largely live according to the truths of Christianity. A representative, limited government won’t last long with a majority of immoral, irreligious people.
