Wisconsin voters statewide will see a referendum question this fall that would alter Section One of Article Three of the Wisconsin Constitution to allow only United States citizens age eighteen and older to vote. The state constitution currently states that “every” United States citizen can vote, rather than “only” United States citizens. Cities in other states have begun allowing non-U.S. citizens to vote in local elections, and proponents of the amendment believe these changes will cut off any similar attempt in our state.

We encourage voters to visit myvote.wi.gov to see the wording of this referendum that if passed will amend our state constitution. Legislators passed this in an effort to address election integrity. Going to the people as a referendum bypasses the governor who has vetoed every election reform bill that has landed on his desk.
