This month we officially recognize National Family Week, celebrated the week of Thanksgiving. President Richard Nixon first proclaimed National Family Week after an Indiana constituent noticed the stark difference in children who came from strong, supportive families and those who were not being raised in a traditional family unit. President Ronald Reagan’s first National Family Week proclamation noted that family is the basic unit of our society and the heart of our free republic.

National Family Week highlights the enduring importance of strong families for the healthy functioning of society. As Reagan noted, the week is a time to recommit to the natural family as a national heritage and resource that must withstand the trends of lifestyle and legislation. At Wisconsin Family Council, we wholeheartedly agree.
