There are numerous Lutheran schools participating in Wisconsin’s four choice programs, which is a strong testament to the choices Wisconsin families make in sending their children to faith-based schools. Kingdom Prep, an all-boys Lutheran high school based just outside of Milwaukee, was born out of the need for more choice seats in local Lutheran schools. Hundreds of applicants were being turned away due to increased enrollment, leaving many families without the educational options they deserve.
Kingdom Prep is a unique option for families looking for a school environment that will help their sons build leadership skills alongside obtaining a solid education. Founder, president, and principal Kevin Festerling noticed a deficit of young men in leadership and has since created an environment that fosters a sense of ownership and brotherhood among the student body. Throughout their time at Kingdom Prep, students work with a pack, or group of other classmates, led by senior students. Mr. Festerling likens these packs to a “surrogate family of brothers” where students help each other work to become empowered members of their community.
The ties of the brotherhood remain strong long after students graduate. Kingdom Prep’s alumni engagement is a clear indication of how successful this program is, with many students attending sports games or visiting the impactful teachers and staff. Some graduates have even found their way back to their alma mater by working in various capacities, such as leading academic interventions or working in their kitchen. The “pack life” mentality runs deep for the young men of Kingdom Prep.
