President Donald Trump announced Friday that he would sign an executive order to keep the social media app TikTok running for 75 days.

Trump insisted his administration had made great progress on a deal to keep the social media app running in the U.S., but that it needed more time to finalize it.

“The Deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social. “We hope to continue working in Good Faith with China, who I understand are not very happy about our Reciprocal Tariffs (Necessary for Fair and Balanced Trade between China and the U.S.A.!).”

April 6 was the deadline for the China-based ByteDance to either sell the app or face a ban on U.S. operations.

The founder of OnlyFans and Amazon made offers to buy the app earlier this week.

“We do not want TikTok to ‘go dark.’ We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the Deal. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump’s post concluded.
