New research from the Institute for Family Studies dives into a phenomenon termed the “father divide” among Virginia families. Researchers found that a major factor contributing to varying child educational outcomes is the presence versus the absence of a father, rather than outward characteristics and factors such as race. Ultimately, children with present, involved fathers are more likely to do well in school and have better physical and emotional health.
Too often, the influence of fathers is diminished in popular commentary, but flourishing families need engaged mothers and fathers working together to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. The family, as God intended it, works toward this goal acknowledging the equal importance and unique contributions of both mothers and fathers in the home.
