For years public education has been on a downward spiral as public schools continue lowering academic standards and inflating student success rates. Last week, Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty sent a letter to the Department of Public Instruction asking for a re-evaluation of the Wisconsin report card system. WILL found that DPI’s ratings of Wisconsin schools and student outcomes were significantly higher than similar independent rating groups. The Institute recommends an overhaul of the Wisconsin report card system and more transparency.
Inflating academic achievement is a disservice to students. When students are failing, educators must honestly evaluate their system and find ways to improve and adapt. Wisconsin taxpayers deserve honesty, transparency, and consistency within education, and certainly so do the families whose children attend these public schools.
