On June 28th, 1894, Congress officially declared the first Monday in September as Labor Day. Although most people think of Labor Day as simply an extra day off work, the holiday was created to appreciate and recognize the working class for their past and future contributions to our great nation. Everything that characterizes the United States today, from monuments and architecture to industry and infrastructure, is only possible because of the significant contributions of individual laborers.

Today as you spend time with family and friends, go to community events, or simply enjoy an extra day off work, we hope you’ll remember and appreciate the unique contributions of laborers in building our great nation and thank God for giving us the capacity and opportunity to work. From all of us at Wisconsin Family Council, Happy Labor Day!
