The Heritage Foundation recently released its Education Freedom Report Card which ranks all 50 states on how well their current policies promote education freedom in K-12 schools. The ranking system consists of five categories with individual scores that contribute to one overall score. Wisconsin came in 29th in the overall score. Although Wisconsin ranked near the middle in education choice and civic education and had a high score in the return on investment category, we ranked last in teacher freedom and had a significantly low score in transparency.

Educators and policy makers in every state should do everything in their power to increase their scores in all five categories. In Wisconsin, at both the state and the local level, we must champion policies that will drastically improve transparency and promote true freedom in our K-12 schools.
