Labor Day—the day we celebrate workers and their work. While its beginning is linked to labor unions, over the years the concept has expanded to recognize all labor and all laborers. The social and economic impact of American workers is extraordinary, contributing significantly to our strength, prosperity, and overall well-being. Today Labor Day also notes the end of summer, the beginning of a school year, and special sales from a myriad of retailers.

Celebrating work and workers makes sense because work is noble and originated with God. In the Garden of Eden before the Fall, God told Adam to subdue the earth and have dominion over it. That’s work! Scripture also makes it clear that work matters to God and that He equips people with skills and talents to be used as they work. Happy Labor Day to all!
