Fifty-six years ago, the Griswold v. Connecticut U.S. Supreme Court ruling (June 7, 1965) legalized contraception and established a so-called “right to privacy” that paved the way for the Roe v Wade ruling a few years later. The purpose of our campaign is to draw attention to the dangers of the birth control pill and the fact that it does indeed cause early chemical abortions.
The American Life League coined the event name, “The Pill Kills.” Many know that the pill can aid in preventing fertilization, but what is not commonly known is that it is also capable of killing a newly conceived child by making the lining of the uterus too thin for the embryo to implant inside the mother. In addition, many women have died as a result of using the pill. It is physically dangerous not only for the baby, but also for the mother.
The pill is deadly not only to babies but also to the morality of people and their understanding of the value of the human person. Easy access to birth control encourages riskier sexual behavior because of the blind belief that the contraceptive will protect against any unwanted outcomes, i.e. a child. When the contraceptive fails, abortion becomes the backup solution. The pill also plays a part in demeaning the human person as an object of pleasure while stripping the sexual union between a man and a woman of its inherent function of reproduction. This all promotes what we call the “contraceptive mentality”.
