Lifesite news reports that Canada-based website Pornhub suspended access to Texas users after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled in favor of Texas’s law requiring age verification for users to protect children from accessing obscene content. The company had claimed that obscene, pornographic content is “protected speech” that adults have a “right” to access and that Texas’ law “fails strict scrutiny,” but that argument failed to win over the Fifth Circuit Court.

Wisconsin legislators had the opportunity this session to pass a similar age-verification bill. The assembly passed the bill but unfortunately, the senate did not take it up. Part of the concern was whether it would withstand a court challenge. This decision by a federal court of appeals should put those concerns to rest going forward.
