Institute for Family Studies and Gallup have issued a report entitled, “Married People Are Living Their Best Lives.” The report reveals that comparing across relationship status, adults who are married are by far the happiest, as measured by how they evaluate their current and future life. In 2023, married adults ages 25-50 are 17 percentage points more likely to be thriving than adults who never married, up from 12 percentage points in 2009. The results are adjusted for demographic differences.

This study adds to the growing body of social science research reinforcing the good of marriage for individuals and thus for society. The study also shows that married people living in areas with high marriage rates enjoy higher subjective well-being. Human flourishing depends on communities, churches, and families being active marriage champions.
