Congress is expected to pass a landmark social media regulatory bill, known as the Kids Online Safety Act, in the coming months. The bill would expand online child safety protections by enforcing default safeguards that would curtail some of social media’s most addictive and dangerous features. The goal of the bill is to combat addiction, protect children from predators, and allow parents more access to monitor their children’s accounts.

Kids are clearly struggling with a plethora of mental health issues, and at least some of it stems from the addictive nature of technology and social media. Government needs to demand social media platforms protect children, rather than profit off of what too easily becomes a dangerous addiction. That said, parents are the best prepared to protect their children.
