The days surrounding Thanksgiving are chock-full of consumerism (Black Friday, Cyber Monday). #GivingTuesday takes place the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and is a day where charities across the world invite us to give back selflessly to our communities. This #GivingTuesday at Pro-Life Wisconsin, we are excited to continue to invite you into the mission of saving lives!

This year, we are sharing how your donation impacts the fight for life in our state and through our PLW programs with Kaiah’s* Story. We hope this will encourage and empower you to stand strong in the support of life and give from the heart!

Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Dan Miller strives to always have a presence at the abortion centers in Wisconsin. At the end of October, while sidewalk counseling outside one center, Dan noticed a young woman getting out of a taxicab and entering the abortion center. It wasn’t until the next day, 24 hours after the woman made her first visit, that Dan got to meet *Kaiah in the gas station nearby.

That next day when Kaiah returned to the abortion center, the sidewalk counselors tried offering her literature and encouraged her to choose life for her baby, but she continued on to her appointment. Later, when Kaiah walked out, she was receptive to the counselors saying, “I’d love to talk more, but I’m really hungry!” A counselor said, “What are you hungry for? Dan will buy you lunch!” Kaiah said, “I want a hot dog!”

Dan then offered to buy Kaiah lunch; she accepted and walked over to a nearby gas station with Dan. He asked her, “You’re eating for two now, aren’t you?” Kaiah responded with, “Yeah…but the boyfriend is such a jerk.” Dan comforted her by saying, “Well, let’s not worry about that right now. Let’s get you something to eat.”

While Kaiah ate, she told Dan she had been homeless just a few months ago. Now, she explained excitedly, she had a new home—an apartment! However, she didn’t have any furniture. Dan gave her his card and wrote down the number for a local pregnancy resource center near her home.

“You go see them,” he told her. “I promise you whatever you need, they will find for you. If it’s outside their budget, you call me, and I will take care of it.”

Kaiah almost dropped her lunch. “You’re kidding!?!” she said. Dan simply replied, “Nope. Not kidding. I can’t think of one thing you could throw at us that we couldn’t find a solution to. We have helped hundreds of women in your situation before. It’s not our first rodeo.”

Kaiah could not believe this was happening and wondered what the reason must be. Dan said, “It’s providence. God put us together. God knew you needed help. He sent me. Do you believe in God?” She replied with, “Yes, I do. Now I know He is listening.” With care and compassion, Dan told her, “This is the part where I beg you to spare your baby from abortion. What do you think?”

Kaiah said, “I’m not coming back [for the abortion]. But I might be calling you for that help with the furniture!”

Dan responded with, “I would welcome that call any day, any time!” They shook hands and went their separate ways.

A few days later Kaiah did reach out to Dan Miller requesting help purchasing furniture for her apartment. On November 1st, Pro-Life Wisconsin bought two couches, three lamps, and a chair to help furnish Kaiah’s new apartment. She is officially in “nesting” mode.

Her baby is expected in May 2025.
