State Representative Barbara Dittrich has reintroduced a bill to ban transgender athletes from competing on teams that match their so-called “gender identity” but deny biological reality. Earlier this month, the WIAA and the NCAA updated their policies to comply with President Trump’s executive order barring biological males from competing in women’s and girls’ sports. The purpose of this bill is to ensure Trump’s policy is codified into state law if a future president overturns the executive order.

President Trump has reaffirmed many traditional values through executive orders, but our state and federal legislators are right to introduce bills that would codify these values into law for a longer-lasting impact. Women and girls should be protected in athletics not just for the next four years, but permanently. This is something both the legislature and the governor should agree on.
