The Institute for Family Studies, upon request from the Trump Administration, has given five recommendations for the White House’s AI Action Plan. The Institute recommends establishing the President’s Council on Technology and the Family; requiring family impact and opportunity assessments; incorporating a family-focused strategy and personnel in AI research and development; balancing automation with investments in job recovery and skill development; and protecting minors from AI-related harms.

AI technology has many benefits that can be useful to both individuals and families. It would be foolish, however, to ignore the negative consequences that can come with this innovation. The Trump Administration should heed the advice of the Institute for Family Studies and proceed with caution in this new landscape, especially when it comes to its impact on families and minors.
