Following the example set by various states, including Wisconsin, Congress is strengthening laws that keep noncitizens from voting in state and federal elections. The House of Representatives recently passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility or SAVE Act, which requires voters to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Although laws already exist that specify only US citizens can vote, the SAVE Act will put measures in place to prevent noncitizens from registering in the first place.
As was demonstrated in the spring election referendum regarding voter ID, voting integrity is important to the people of Wisconsin. If the SAVE Act passes in the US Senate, it will provide an extra layer of protection for fair elections in Wisconsin and across the US. Protective election laws are a step in the right direction in the fight to preserve liberty.
