Earlier this month, the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty filed a friend-of-the-court brief in support of two parents who are suing a Florida public school after school staff not only met with their child to discuss gender identity, but without parental consent or involvement, encouraged the child to change their name and use different pronouns. The parents are asserting that their parental rights have been violated.
Sadly, parental rights are being disregarded in many schools across the country including in our state. Earlier this year, the Wisconsin Assembly passed a bill that would protect children from unauthorized name and pronoun changes. The bill is now in the Senate. The real question is whether Governor Evers, in this year he has designated as the year of the kid would sign the bill if it reaches his desk.
