Harvard researchers recently partnered with Gallup to produce the Global Flourishing Study, which assessed human flourishing in various countries and territories around the world. Surprisingly, economic prosperity was not a main factor in this assessment; instead, researchers found that human flourishing is highest in countries with high marriage and fertility rates. For example, although Indonesia is economically poor, the nation ranked first in human flourishing, which researchers attribute to high marriage rates, while the US ranked only fifteenth.

Studies continue to show that marriage and children contribute extensively to overall human happiness and flourishing. Currently, marriage rates in the US are just over 50%, but if we want to see our communities, state, and nation thrive, that number needs to rise. We need strong marriage champions to support the formation of strong family units.
