About the Position

The Development Associate will play a critical role in supporting WILL’s development efforts. This opportunity is ideal for someone interested in gaining development experience and growing their project-management skills in an entry-level role. The ideal candidate would have between six months to two years’ experience working in a database or in an administrative, support role. An outgoing personality, persuasive writing skills, and a willingness to network with others and attend events is crucial to this success of this role.

The Development Associate will report to the Development Director. This is an in-office role based in Milwaukee, WI.

Responsibilities

  • Prospecting and Fundraising
    • Research and identify potential partners
    • Locate key contacts within our networks to facilitate connections and advance relationships
    • Help create mission-based, donor-centric appeals distributed through a variety of channels including direct mail, social media, and other correspondence
  • Grant Writing
    • Assist in the development of writing requests for funding proposals and letters of intent
  • Cultivating Donor Relationships
    • Support the Development Director’s efforts to manage and steward investors, including oversight of WILL’s Gratitude Campaign
    • Coordinate special mailings including holiday cards and invitations to donor events
  • Database Management
    • Maintain development records in DonorPerfect
    • Ensure overall data integrity.
    • Run reports as needed, synthesize information and share frequent updates about current and prospective investors.
  • Donor Acknowledgment
    • Send acknowledgment letters/emails and tax receipts, working diligently to ensure donors are acknowledged in a timely manner
  • Social Media and Digital Marketing
    • Grow WILL’s online presence by creating thoughtful, engaging social media to share with our donors and prospects
  • Special Event Coordination
    • Work with the Development Director to coordinate the annual celebration dinner and other donor or prospect events
  • Attend Other Events
    • Willingness to attend other events within the freedom space as needed. These are often dinners held during work week evenings and are crucial for networking.
  • Website updates as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

The Development Associate will be a highly-motivated, self-starter.. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualities and attributes:

  • 1+ years experience in development, fundraising, project management, communications, or other relevant experience
  • Culture—and mission-driven—passionate about WILL and the work it does and excited to communicate that work to others
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to representing WILL with enthusiasm, warmth and professionalism
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • The ability to thrive in fast-paced environment and the capacity to multi-task and manage multiple assignments, sometimes with competing deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word andExcel.
    • Ability to merge letters and emails is a definite plus.
  • Ability to learn new software and database programs is a must
  • Polished, professional and poised, ready to meet and work with others in the freedom space
  • Ability to travel on occasion, around 5%
  • Bachelor’s Degree
