Recent data from standardized test scores and state report cards have proven the effectiveness of Wisconsin choice schools compared to their public counterparts. Families deserve the right to select a school that will further their children’s academic growth, and financial status or zip codes should not deter this success. It is no coincidence that choice schools—those able to establish autonomy over curriculum and instruction—demonstrate high levels of academic achievement. One example of such is Trinity Lutheran School in Sheboygan.
Principal Jenna Roeske describes the delivery and style of education at Trinity as traditional, but highly effective. While many schools are moving away from “traditional” practices for subjects like spelling and handwriting, or eliminating homework altogether, Principal Roeske sees these as valuable to success. Another advantage of this kind of instruction is that parents can be more hands-on with helping their children. Overall, Roeske says that Trinity is very transparent with families in terms of their curricular approaches, which ultimately fosters strong connections between families and the school.
Roeske values this connection even more because her own children are enrolled at Trinity. Having previously worked as a teacher at another local Lutheran school, she knows how impactful a faith-centered education can be. She also knows that parents do not have to sacrifice good academics for a religious school environment. Roeske wants to give her own kids (and those she works for) a “both-and” school—both academically achieving and spiritually enriching. When parents have educational options, this is possible.
